There has been a few changes after our AGM, the recent ill health of Huntly Pipe Band’s President Bill McConnachie has lead to him stepping down from the role he has held over the past 12 years. Bill has had two separate stints with the Huntly Pipe Band, the first was whilst in his teens alongside his twin brother Jim McConnachie. During the AGM a number of tributes were paid to Bill for his valued contributions during both his terms with the band, in particular, during the past 12 plus years as Band President.

Bill’s immense input during this period included the wonderful Ambassador role he provided the band with, always taking the opportunity to talk up the bands developments and rallying strong interest and support within the community. He continually gave words of encouragement to fellow band members and provided us with strength of leadership that everyone within the band recognised and tirelessly followed.  The band is currently in a very strong position in every respect, arguably better than it has ever been in its 60 plus years existence. With 42 playing members, 12 of that number comprising of junior members and a number in addition holding office, the Huntly & District Pipe Band can proudly boast of having its largest ever membership. He withdraws from the band leaving a strong balance sheet to help cushion us from the considerable annual costs associated with running the band, in addition, allow for additional investment in the coming years too. He also leaves an excellent team structure of likeminded people, comprising of elected committee and office bearers that will continue to take the band forward.  By way of acknowledging his valuable contributions, and indeed our membership’s admiration towards him, Bill was duly recognised through an Honorary President position during the AGM.  It is widely hoped that his health continues to improve and that he is somehow able to continue his long, extremely proud association with Huntly & District Pipe Band.
