After 3 years of hard work and practice 11 pipers gave their first public performance in Huntly Square at the annual music festival. The weather was tremendous and the youngsters looked and sounded fantastic. They played as a group alongside some of the young drummers already in the Band and then formed up and played with the main Band.
The pipers were first tutored by Hamish Munro from Elgin and then latterly by Richard Anderson, a former Pipe Major at RAF Lossiemouth. At the weekly practice Richard has been assisted by Pipe Major Hamish Dean and Pipe Sergeant Clarence Gould. It is the biggest single intake into the band since it was founded in 1948 by pipers and drummers returning from the Second World War.
Fundraising for new kit for the youngsters has been boosted by a donation of £1000 from a fund operated by Grampian Police and has also been supported by local businessman, Alastair Campbell, who has sponsored a piper.
